Sorting repository items
It would be nice to have the option to sort repository items. When adding additional items into the repository the ability to find items becomes more difficult. My naming convention is such that items are labeled to first identify where they are within the applications so when reviewing the repo items I could see if all the objects were captured and without being able to sort the Repo items this is more difficult to accomplish (having the search capability is great)

Thank you again for your input.
We are currently closely investigating this is part of a larger change for the repository view.
Basically, we have two options: Making sorting only on view level, or on data level. Both has advantages and disadvantages. If we only do it on view level, the changes through sorting won’t be persistent, if we do it on data level, they will be persistent. In the first case, a new element would automatically appear in the “correct” location, in the latter case it would appear at the bottom and in order to get the list sorted again, you would have to sort the list again. If it is only on view level, you can’t manually rearrange elements anymore, they would be sorted and that’s it.
What behavior would you as a user expect or prefer?

Thomas from the Ranorex Product Management Team

Voting for data level too.

on data level, even if you have to foresee a button to manually re-sort after a change this would already be a big advantage

Data level, pls. We still need to manually be able to rearrange the repository, even after a sort..

I'd also prefer sorting at data level. By this you even offer more flexibility to the users who might not like alphabetical sorting or in certain circumstances would like to avoid this kind of sorting.

Personally, I'd prefer sorting at the data level. I often find that merely sorting falls short, making it necessary to manually arrange some elements in a long list.

Totally necessary, it is a mess to work with big repositories without sorting, even if you can search items

Being able to sort alphabetically would be a huge time saver.

I would love this feature as well. I just spent a ton of time naming all my repository items into readable names and then created simple folders to organize everything. Then after putting them into simple folders I had to manually sort them alphabetically. Which looks amazing now that it is done and it is easier to find everything. So having it auto sort everything like it already does for the recording modules would be very nice. Thanks
