Ideas to Improve Ranorex

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us at Ranorex Uservoice.

  1. Make it easier to switch between values from a datasource

    In my understanding, the values from the currently active index in the datasources, gets mapped to basicly a string while building.
    It may could be needed sometimes to use another index later on in the test execution.
    It would be nice if it was possible to switch during the test run.

    An idea of mine is, to have an option to store the values in an array instead of a string in order to do somethin like that:
    value[1] = "this is the first"
    value[2] = "this is the next"
    and so switch very easy between different values

  3. Allow comments on the Data Binding page

    When working with complicated recordings, where a recording is re-used multiple times in a test suite, sometimes the data binding can get very confusing. A single variable may need to be bound to 3 different values in different places. Ranorex should have a section in the data binding window that will allow comments, to make clear why a value was bound to a variable to other test automators, and your future self

  4. add sort and search to repository variables editor

    In the repository view you can click the variables button to see an overview of all variables used in the repository. For large repositories, this can contain a lot of variables, but this view does not allow sorting or searching.
    Please add these functions to this window. Also default alphabetic sorting of the variables list would already be a big help.

  5. Variable Dsn, uid and pwd in SQL connector

    We use the same Ranorex solution and same Test suite with different Run configurations for different environments.
    Our AUT is based on Oracle Forms and Oracle DBMS.
    With User code changing the Windows ODBC registry keys, we've managed to dynamically switch DSN to TNS Service name of the tested environment, though are uncapable to dynamically change the uid and pwd for the tested environment. They "burnt-in" the Test suite and are only able to be change when developing the whole solution.

    We suggest that also definition of Data source - SQL connector could use variables as same se recording modules,…

  6. User Code Exceptions should Point to the Step in the Recording

    When a test fails because of a RanorexException thrown by user code, the "Jump to item" in the report takes you to the *.UserCode.cs file, or displays a "file not found" error message if the user code comes from a code library. This is convenient for the user code developer but confusing for non-coding testers who want to see the test step which failed.
    Suggestions:
    - The generated code for a recording step with an internal action starts with a "Report.Log" call. Add this line to user code actions too.
    - Or Supply a function in the API that returns…

  9. have a waiting time before tracking an object in ranorex spy; this is helpful to track item in a contextual menu

    Let say you have a contextual menu in your software that only show up when right clicking or click on a menu item but the problem it is closing down as soon you put the focus in another application.

    If the ranorex spy have a tiny box that wait that amount of time to track an item I will be able to open a contextual menu and see if the new Rxpath that I wrote works. Otherwise it sometimes end up in a black box and make it harder to debug when a contextual menu is not found as ranorex…

  14. Show frequently used code/recording/group modules in one tab with count.

    In Ranorex module browser, we can see list of code/recording/group modules that can be drag drop in test suite to create test case.

    Idea is to have similar browser which will have list of frequently used code/recording/group modules. It will make testers life easier while creating test case. Also if we can add count in bracket besides module how many times it is used in all available test suites. This will help user to take extra care while modifying it and remove unused one.
    Implementing this feature will be helpful.

  15. Support for QT Android mobile application - Written in QT

    Add Support for Android Mobile application written in QT. Ranorex does't recognize the QT element for mobile at all.
    the usage of QT is becoming more and more popular and the usage in mobile applications is growing.

    For comparison Ranorex raccognizes desktop application written in QT perfectly. Ranorex support QT as technology.

  16. Ranorex Spy 9 - Generate C# code should include the [RepositoryImage] public CompressedImage GetScreenShot1() item

    I observed the difference as follows:

    1) Open Ranorex Studio IDE. Create a new project. Create the object repository with a ScreenShot1. Build the solution. Ranorex has automatically generated C# code for the object repository. The generated C# code contains the [RepositoryImage] public CompressedImage GetScreenShot1() item as seen below.

                /// <summary>

    /// Gets the Screenshot1 item image.
    /// </summary>
    /// <returns>The Screenshot1 image.</returns>
    [RepositoryImage("33ceaf78-8cb7-4728-ab7e-947fa014fd2e")]
    public CompressedImage GetScreenshot1()
    {
    return GetImage("33ceaf78-8cb7-4728-ab7e-947fa014fd2e");
    }

    2) Open Ranorex Spy 9. Create the object repository with a ScreenShot1 and manually generate C# code. The generate C# code does not contain the [RepositoryImage] public CompressedImage GetScreenShot1()…

  17. LicenseManager running with Linux Server

    To avoid high licence costs for Windows Server, a small licence manager within Linux OS would be nice. It can be used within .NET Core 3.1. but better would be native Linux implementation.

    Our UseCase:
    Having several VM in a Cloud environment e.g. Azure, starting from scratch and beeing deleted after test, it is not possible to copy and run the Ranorex Licence directily on the VM, because the risk of loosing the licence is too high if the VM crash. Running a Ubuntu Server in Azure is half the price as a Windows Server per month. So we would…

  18. Improve databinding

    With Version 9.3 databinding has changed so that is hardly to use for my test cases. I have 50 databinding files from different projects. Now the option ‘Copy file to project’ has to be used. All databinding files are now in my project directory. This makes the directory quite complex. It would be perfect if the databinding files could be grouped in different folders. Furthermore it would be great if databinding files from other projects could be selected in the data sources without ‘Copy file to my project’. At the moment I have to use the pre-build event to copy…

  19. Create a new Jira issue once a previous Jira from the same solution is closed. Currently, the old one just gets reopened

    If my solution fails it creates a Jira. We fix the problem, rerun the solution and the Jira gets closed. Works well. However, if the same solution runs on it's next scheduled run and fails, it does not create a new Jira. It just reopens the old one.

  20. Integration of Ranorex reports with TM4J (Adaptavist)

    Good afternoon friends ! We, in our company, came up with a great idea - to integrate the reports generated by Ranorex into Jira. In Jira, there is an excellent tool for managing the testing process (TM4J (Adaptavist)), which allows you to create test scripts (step-by-step descriptions) and also receive, save and process the results of autotests developed for these scenarios. Further, with the help of a tool that creates visual visual graphs, we can consolidate and visually see the general statistics of the results of passing automatic tests, for example, in one day! ) This is very cool, really!…
